Chirimen is the ground, not the drawing: silk woven with a hard-twisted weft then scoured so it shrinks into a fine pebbled crinkle called shibo, with stencil paste-resist and brush dyeing added afterward. These nine carry a crinkled ground, a stencil floral and a brush-dyed motif through pebbled shibo texture, paste-resist stencil and hand-brushed colour.
