Delft tile pattern: small figure, corner motif

Delft — A scene across a grid of tiles: a flower-filled urn on a plinth with a bird alighting on the rim, drawn in cobalt washes, enclosed by a drawn border of scrollwork and a pair of hanging swags., Delftware painting, cobalt washes on tin glaze with a firm drawn outline and a softer filling wash

Dutch potters answered Chinese porcelain with tin-glazed earthenware and a division of hands: one draws the outline, another fills it. Tiles came by the thousand, a single small figure in the middle and a corner motif at each junction, laid across a whole wall. These nine render a small figure motif across three corner-motif variants. Ask for a different figure — a ship, a windmill, a floral spray — and the same centre-and-corner structure carries it.

Frequently asked questions

What size do these print at?
Each pattern is a seamless repeat scaled for a standard tile format, so it tiles cleanly across a wall.
Can I get a different figure, like a ship or a windmill?
Yes — the direction field takes any figure, and the same centre-and-corner structure renders it.
Why does every tile carry a corner motif?
So that when many tiles are laid edge to edge, the corner motifs from adjoining tiles meet and form a continuous secondary pattern across the whole wall.
Is this respectful of real Delft tile traditions?
The set draws on the Dutch delftware tradition's visual technique — a small centred figure with a repeating corner motif in blue and white — as a style reference for a generated pattern, not a reproduction of any specific historic tile.

About toile

This page is a showcase and a starting point: nine samples already rendered, three readings of the pack crossed with three styles, each shown at the size and ratio it was made for. Take any of them further on the wall with a few words, or ask for all nine again under your own direction; a sign-in keeps what you make, and it is free while Toile is new. The recipe behind each sample — the subject, the style, the palette, the framing — travels with the image rather than staying private to the render: it is in the alt text of every sample and in the page's own structured data, so a search engine reads the same handles a person would.
