Printable cut-and-fold templates for a paper fanous, the lantern of Egypt and the Levant hung in Ramadan. Each sheet is a flat net with fold lines and a glue tab: a six-sided lantern with arched windows, a four-panel lantern with eight-pointed star windows, or a simple slit lantern for small children. Type a direction such as tea light and the same net is drawn with it.
- a paper lantern for a family table
- a class craft project
- a decoration for a doorway or window
- a lantern for a children's Ramadan party
Frequently asked questions
- How do I put a lantern together?
- Cut along the solid lines, fold on the dashed lines, and glue the tab to close the shape.
- What is the difference between the styles?
- Plain outline is a cutting template to decorate by hand. Pierced panels are solid black cut-out shapes, like the pierced brass of a Cairo fanous. Colour print has the panels already in jewel colours.
- Is the pierced design meant to be lit?
- Yes. The cut-outs are drawn so that the light shines through them.
- Can I ask for a different lantern?
- Yes. Type a direction such as tea light and it is drawn as a net. That is a request, not a promised result.
About toile
This page is a showcase and a starting point: nine samples already rendered, three readings of the pack crossed with three styles, each shown at the size and ratio it was made for. Take any of them further on the wall with a few words, or ask for all nine again under your own direction; a sign-in keeps what you make, and it is free while Toile is new. The recipe behind each sample — the subject, the style, the palette, the framing — travels with the image rather than staying private to the render: it is in the alt text of every sample and in the page's own structured data, so a search engine reads the same handles a person would.
