The character 福, fu, means good fortune. It is pasted on doors and walls for the Spring Festival, often hung upside down, because the word for upside down sounds like the word for arrived. Each picture is one Fu design on a plain ground, to print, paste or use as an icon: a red diamond, an upside-down gold Fu, or a round red seal woven with plum blossom. Type a different version to change it.
- A paper sign for a front door
- A wall decoration for the New Year
- A social media icon for the festival
- A print or card design
Frequently asked questions
- Why is the character sometimes upside down?
- Upside down, 倒 sounds like 到, arrived, so the fortune has arrived. One of the three designs shows it that way.
- What does 福 mean?
- Fu means good fortune or blessing.
- What is the difference between the three styles?
- Brush calligraphy has black and gold strokes on red, paper cut-out has solid shapes with openings, and flat icon uses three flat colours and reads at small sizes.
- Can I change the design?
- Yes. Type a different version, such as with a fish; the result may differ from the sample.
About toile
This page is a showcase and a starting point: nine samples already rendered, three readings of the pack crossed with three styles, each shown at the size and ratio it was made for. Take any of them further on the wall with a few words, or ask for all nine again under your own direction; a sign-in keeps what you make, and it is free while Toile is new. The recipe behind each sample — the subject, the style, the palette, the framing — travels with the image rather than staying private to the render: it is in the alt text of every sample and in the page's own structured data, so a search engine reads the same handles a person would.
