Hardanger is Norwegian white-on-white openwork: satin-stitch blocks, with threads cut and drawn out between them to leave a lace grid. A counted chart shows the blocks, cut areas and fillings. These nine cover a square motif, a dove's eye filling and a stepped border. Each comes as a stitch chart, a chart with cut areas shaded, or a two-tone chart. Type a different piece and the same layout carries it.

Frequently asked questions

What is a kloster block?
A block of satin stitches worked close together. The threads between blocks are cut away.
Which chart shows the cut areas?
The cut areas style, where the satin blocks are solid black and the cut areas are shaded light grey.
Can I use a different motif?
Yes. Type the motif you want and the same counted layout carries it.

About toile

This page is a showcase and a starting point: nine samples already rendered, three readings of the pack crossed with three styles, each shown at the size and ratio it was made for. Take any of them further on the wall with a few words, or ask for all nine again under your own direction; a sign-in keeps what you make, and it is free while Toile is new. The recipe behind each sample — the subject, the style, the palette, the framing — travels with the image rather than staying private to the render: it is in the alt text of every sample and in the page's own structured data, so a search engine reads the same handles a person would.
