Korhogo patterns: hornbill, crocodile, guinea fowl in three mud tones

Korhogo — Rows of stylised animals painted in dark brown on ecru — fish with fanned tails, long-legged birds, a goat, a turtle seen from above — each drawn with a heavy outline and a few interior strokes, all facing one way within a row., hand-spun cotton strips sewn together, the figures stencilled then painted in with fermented mud that darkens as it dries

Korhogo cloth comes from Senufo weavers in northern Côte d'Ivoire: hand-spun cotton strips sewn up, the figures stencilled and then painted in with a fermented mud that darkens as it oxidises. These nine set a hornbill, a crocodile and a guinea fowl, each in a pale mud tone, a deep mud tone and a contemporary colourway. Ask for a different animal figure and the same three tones carry it.

Frequently asked questions

What size do these print at?
Each pattern is drawn at A3 proportions with an even margin, so it prints clean at A3 or scales to A4.
Can I ask for a different animal figure?
Yes — the direction field takes a different figure and the same three mud tones render it.
What's the difference between the three mud tones?
Pale mud tone catches the figure early in the oxidising process; deep mud tone lets it darken fully; contemporary colourway keeps the stencilled outline but opens the fill to a modern palette.
Is this respectful of real Senufo Korhogo cloth traditions?
The set draws on the Senufo stencil-and-mud painting technique codified in Korhogo as a style reference for a generated pattern, not a reproduction of any specific painter's own cloth.

About toile

This page is a showcase and a starting point: nine samples already rendered, three readings of the pack crossed with three styles, each shown at the size and ratio it was made for. Take any of them further on the wall with a few words, or ask for all nine again under your own direction; a sign-in keeps what you make, and it is free while Toile is new. The recipe behind each sample — the subject, the style, the palette, the framing — travels with the image rather than staying private to the render: it is in the alt text of every sample and in the page's own structured data, so a search engine reads the same handles a person would.
