Saree draping charts: the Nivi drape in six steps, regional drapes, the pallu

Saree draping charts — six numbered figures "1" to "6": tucking the saree at the waist, wrapping once around, making the pallu pleats, taking it over the left shoulder, making the front pleats and tucking them in, technical fashion line art with uniform thin black outlines, the pleats as fine parallel lines and small arrows showing each fold

Reading 1Nivi drape steps
Reading 2Regional drapes
Reading 3Pallu styles

A saree draping chart shows how to follow the tucks, pleats and pallu of a drape. One picture shows the Nivi drape in six numbered figures, from tucking at the waist to tucking the front pleats in. Another places five regional drapes side by side: Nivi, Bengali, Gujarati, Nauvari and Kodava. A third shows three ways to set the pallu. Type a drape or fabric, such as Banarasi silk, and the chart is drawn for it.

Frequently asked questions

Is the Nivi drape the only way to wear a saree?
No. The chart shows the Nivi drape step by step and four regional drapes beside it. Other drapes exist and are not shown.
What is the pallu?
The pallu is the loose end of the saree that falls over the shoulder. The third picture shows three ways to set it.
Can I type a different drape?
Yes. Type the drape or fabric you want, and the chart is drawn for it in place of the one shown.
What do the three styles look like?
The line diagram uses thin black outline with small arrows for the folds, the flat color version shows a deep red saree with a gold border, and the watercolor version uses teal and magenta washes.

About toile

This page is a showcase and a starting point: nine samples already rendered, three readings of the pack crossed with three styles, each shown at the size and ratio it was made for. Take any of them further on the wall with a few words, or ask for all nine again under your own direction; a sign-in keeps what you make, and it is free while Toile is new. The recipe behind each sample — the subject, the style, the palette, the framing — travels with the image rather than staying private to the render: it is in the alt text of every sample and in the page's own structured data, so a search engine reads the same handles a person would.
