Tatting makes lace from rings and chains of knots, for edgings, doilies, bookmarks and earrings. A diagram draws rings and chains as outlines, with picots as small loops and joins marked. These nine cover a lace edging, a round doily and a six-pointed snowflake. Each comes in thin outline, bold tracing line, or two threads. Type a different piece and the same diagram layout carries it.
- a lace edging
- a bookmark
- a pair of earrings
- a small doily
Frequently asked questions
- Is a tatting diagram the same as a written pattern?
- No. The diagram shows the rings, chains and joins as outlines. The stitch counts are written beside each section on the edging diagram.
- What are the small loops?
- The picots, small loops that stand out along a ring or chain.
- Which style is easiest to follow with a finger?
- The bold tracing style, with thick even outlines and joins marked as filled dots.
About toile
This page is a showcase and a starting point: nine samples already rendered, three readings of the pack crossed with three styles, each shown at the size and ratio it was made for. Take any of them further on the wall with a few words, or ask for all nine again under your own direction; a sign-in keeps what you make, and it is free while Toile is new. The recipe behind each sample — the subject, the style, the palette, the framing — travels with the image rather than staying private to the render: it is in the alt text of every sample and in the page's own structured data, so a search engine reads the same handles a person would.
