These are capital letters A to Z for students and beginners learning hand lettering. Each of the three scripts is drawn once across the alphabet: modern brush capitals with thick downstrokes and thin upstrokes, cursive copperplate capitals with flourishes, and blackletter capitals with guide lines. Each script comes as a practice sheet, gold on black, or over watercolour washes. Type a twist, such as wedding style or large letters, and the same layouts carry it.

  • a reference chart for pen and brush work
  • a decorative print on a wall

Frequently asked questions

Do these show lowercase letters?
No. The nine pages show capital letters A to Z only. Type lowercase too to ask for lowercase letters; that is a request, not a promised result.
What is the difference between the three scripts?
Modern is brush calligraphy with thick downstrokes and thin upstrokes. Cursive is copperplate with flourishes. Blackletter is a gothic style shown with guide lines.
What does the practice sheet look like?
It has faint grey guide lines, slant lines and baselines under each letter, on white paper.
Will the gold version print in gold?
The gold version is a picture of gold ink on dark card with a fine gold rule. Colours will vary with your printer.

About toile

This page is a showcase and a starting point: nine samples already rendered, three readings of the pack crossed with three styles, each shown at the size and ratio it was made for. Take any of them further on the wall with a few words, or ask for all nine again under your own direction; a sign-in keeps what you make, and it is free while Toile is new. The recipe behind each sample — the subject, the style, the palette, the framing — travels with the image rather than staying private to the render: it is in the alt text of every sample and in the page's own structured data, so a search engine reads the same handles a person would.
