The Vishukkani is set out the night before Vishu, so the first sight of the new year is an auspicious one. These nine are photographs of kani arrangements to copy at home: a bell-metal uruli of rice and fruit, a brass Krishna idol with a mirror, and a simple kani before a lit lamp. Each is shown in dawn lamplight, morning daylight or from above. Type a different setting, such as a pooja room, and the same lights carry it.

  • a set-up reference for the night before Vishu
  • a pooja room corner for the festival
  • a picture for a Vishu greeting
  • a guide for a kani laid on a table

Frequently asked questions

Are these photographs of a real family's kani?
No. The nine are generated photographs of arrangements, not pictures of any particular home. Use them as a reference for setting one up.
What goes in a kani?
A typical kani holds rice in a uruli, a golden cucumber, a coconut, fruit, konna flowers, a mirror and a lamp, though families vary.
What is the difference between the lights?
Dawn glow is lit only by oil-wick flames, morning light is soft window daylight, and top view is a flat-lay photographed from above.
Can I ask for a different arrangement?
Yes. Type the setting you want and it is shown in the same three lights, as a sample.

About toile

This page is a showcase and a starting point: nine samples already rendered, three readings of the pack crossed with three styles, each shown at the size and ratio it was made for. Take any of them further on the wall with a few words, or ask for all nine again under your own direction; a sign-in keeps what you make, and it is free while Toile is new. The recipe behind each sample — the subject, the style, the palette, the framing — travels with the image rather than staying private to the render: it is in the alt text of every sample and in the page's own structured data, so a search engine reads the same handles a person would.
