Paper lantern templates: slit, star, punched cylinder

Reading 1Classic slit lantern
Reading 2Star lantern
Reading 3Punched cylinder

Printable lantern templates for festivals, lantern walks and garden evenings. The classic slit lantern is a rectangle with parallel cuts across the middle. The star lantern has five points, with windows for tracing paper behind them. The punched cylinder wraps around a jar and carries a pattern of dots and crescent moons. Solid lines are cuts, dashed lines are folds, with the finished lantern beside it. A lantern you type is a request, not a promise.

Frequently asked questions

What does the punched cylinder go around?
A jar. The long panel wraps around it, and the dots and crescent moons are cut or punched out so the pattern shows when a light is inside.
What do the three styles change?
Black line art is the plain cut-and-fold diagram. The glowing windows version is flat warm colour with the cut-out windows drawn as pale panels, as if lit from inside. The kids' version uses bright colour and thick outlines.
Are the cut and fold lines marked?
Yes. The legend on each sheet names CUT for solid lines and FOLD for dashed lines.

About toile

This page is a showcase and a starting point: nine samples already rendered, three readings of the pack crossed with three styles, each shown at the size and ratio it was made for. Take any of them further on the wall with a few words, or ask for all nine again under your own direction; a sign-in keeps what you make, and it is free while Toile is new. The recipe behind each sample — the subject, the style, the palette, the framing — travels with the image rather than staying private to the render: it is in the alt text of every sample and in the page's own structured data, so a search engine reads the same handles a person would.
