In Tamil Nadu the Pongal kolam is drawn in white rice flour, then filled with colour for the festival days, larger and brighter than the daily one. These nine show three festival subjects: a boiling Pongal pot with sugarcane, a decorated cow for Mattu Pongal, and a sun with sugarcane and turmeric. Each is shown on a village lane or as a festival poster. Type a subject, such as a rooster, to ask for it.
- a doorway on Pongal morning
- a courtyard on Mattu Pongal
- a festival poster for a community hall
Frequently asked questions
- How is the festival kolam different from the daily one?
- It is drawn the same way, in white rice-flour lines, but it is larger and filled with brighter colour for the festival days.
- What is Mattu Pongal?
- The day of the Pongal festival when cattle are honoured, and the kolam shows a decorated cow with horns painted blue and red.
- What is the difference between the three styles?
- Rice flour fills chalky colour inside unbroken white lines on dark earth; village lane shows a swept lane with a painted doorstep; festival poster uses thick outlines and flat colour on black.
About toile
This page is a showcase and a starting point: nine samples already rendered, three readings of the pack crossed with three styles, each shown at the size and ratio it was made for. Take any of them further on the wall with a few words, or ask for all nine again under your own direction; a sign-in keeps what you make, and it is free while Toile is new. The recipe behind each sample — the subject, the style, the palette, the framing — travels with the image rather than staying private to the render: it is in the alt text of every sample and in the page's own structured data, so a search engine reads the same handles a person would.
